"Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves.
Surely you now that Jesus Christ is among you. If not, you have failed
the test of genuine faith.” 2 Corinthians 13:5 and Colossians 1:27
Being a Christian is far more than knowing scripture or even memorization. It is more than going to church or Sunday School or even a weekly Bible Study. As good and as wonderful as all that is, there are many people who have Christian beliefs and knowledge, but Christ is not in their hearts. In the OT, Isaiah 29:13, God said that the people honor and even worship Him with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him. Jesus quoted that in Matthew 15:8 and Mark 7: 6-7. I encourage you to read these scriptures.
Being a Christian is following Jesus with all your heart, soul and mind and with a humble heart. It is surrendering yourself completely to Him in trust and faithful obedience with a joyful heart. It is all done with a humble heart that is in love with Him who loves you and gave His life for you. Please read 2nd Corinthians 5:21 until it burns into your soul.
Humility is a wonderful word. It is the mind and attitude of the Lord Jesus, Philippians 2: 5-9. Humility is closely connected to Godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and that leads you to salvation, 2 Corinthians 7:10. The result of this is “Holiness."
All of this is what “Christian” means to me. I am a happy man.
